33 1/3 rpm Records
Also known as LPs (Longplays)
33 1/3 rpm records can be called "thirty-threes" or "LP"s (longplays). They can hold about 25 minutes
per side and are used to record full albums, because they only need two discs to hold a full album. They commonly come in
two disc sets and come in a hard cardboard cover and are put in a soft paper sleeve inside. The inner sleeves usually have
the words of the songs written on them or an open up book-like cover that has the words written inside. Thirty-threes came
around in 1929, and took a while to become popular, as nobody had the equipment to play them, because they all had victrolas
and other such older players. The 33 1/3 rpm record is twelve inches as opposed to the 45 rpm records which came in 7
inch and 10 inch format. Most record collectors can recognise the rpm of a record by looking at the size of them. But if you
are unsure you can always look on the actual record and you wil see the rpm written on the record label.
